Your Local Wax Buddy, Colleen
Let me tell you a little about me, and what led me here.
I was born and raised in Greenville, SC. My family is from down south in Bishopville, SC. I’m a millennial, if you couldn’t tell by the way I write.
I went to Woodmont High. (Go Wildcats!) Then Kenneth Shuler for Cosmetology. After I received my license for Cosmetology, I decided that wasn't enough education for what I wanted to do, and went back for Esthetics in 2013. I went originally for makeup and had a long trip from there to where I ended up.
I originally started as a hair stylist. I hated it. Color was all I wanted to do and I was awful at everything else. Then I was a freelance makeup artist. Loved doing special effects for Halloween, but that only came around once a year unfortunately and I was not going to do another prom look. Why can’t we just have Halloween every day? At least once a week, surely. Right before I became a wax specialist, I was a dog groomer. I loved everything about it, but it was destroying my back. If you have a 130 lb Golden Retriever named Max that hated to stand up EVER… he was great and I love him still.

Eventually a wax salon opened up down the street from my grooming salon. I hadn't used my license in a year or two so I figured, why not give it a shot? This was around 2017. I fell in love with it. THIS was where I was meant to be. Just not in that salon. Once I felt like I had enough experience to not fuck everything up, I opened Prickly Pear Wax Spa in 2019. I've been waxing ever since, and probably will until my body can't anymore. Then I hope to raise up a new generation of waxers that care deeply for the people they serve. THe Personal Bits
Just a few little tid-bits of information. Maybe you can find something you want to fill your wax appointment talking to me about. I'm all ears! This is just going to be a rambling of random factoids. So, buckle in.
I'm engaged. My partner is amazing! We have no kids. Never really wanted any. I mean maybe we'll adopt later in life. Who knows? My favorite weekend activities are finding new restaurants, and going hiking. My favorite food is a lamb gyro, and my favorite drink is an Iced Mocha Moon from Summer Moon. I watch a stupid amount of anime, and read manwha almost daily. Solo Leveling is my recent fav, though I have a lot of them. I play video games when I have extra time. I've been running through Cyberpunk and GTA IV lately. I have a beautiful cat named Bubba, and the most precious tripawed puppy in the world named Wednesday. Ask for pictures and it's all over. Plants are slowly taking over my kitchen. There's almost no space on my counters, but it's fine because I kill them as quickly as I acquire them. I was a band geek, and an orchestra geek. I played saxophone and violin. My mother is a music teacher and unsuccessfully tried to teach me piano.
